PMV shares explosion causes when using electricity
Explosion damages leave social consequences and burdens. These explosions often are due to subjective sense and carelessness. The number of large fires is constantly increasing. If the fire occurs in crowded places, it is even more dangerous, because it fires easily spread so that it is difficult to extinguish. According to the statistic of fire prevention police department, in recent years, 60% to 70% of fires and explosions occurred in the whole country was caused by the use of electricity.
So in the use of electricity, what is the cause of fire or explosion? Through analysis of Phat Minh Vuong (PMV) security services company, there are some main reasons:
1. Arbitrarily instal additional equipments and electrical appliances with large power consumption such as air conditioners, water heaters and electric cookers but forget that these devices have not been calculated. This leads to the increase in the capacity so that power consumption overloads.
2. Connect the power cords arbitrarily, does not guarantee the technical requirements for power.
3. The cross-wire section is small to afford electrical current to appliances, power tools that it offers. Electric wires are not checked and replaced.
4. Use electricity unsafe: Forget leaving the kettle on the stove until it drys and aluminum melts, leading to short-circuit. Electronic devices working continuously besides flammables also lead to a fire or ignition.
5. Install lights near ceiling and walls. Because the thermal radiation from the lamps can also cause fires. Most types of lighting devices are now fluorescent and halogen with ballasts and transformers. Thus, installation close to the ceiling and walls makes the combustible materials very dangerous.
6. The devices are not regularly checked and maintained. For example, a broken electric fan transforms the mechanical energy into heat energy that while oil absorbent dust and the plastic shell are the flammable materials at high temperatures.
To prevent the phenomenon of fires and explosions caused by electricity. Here are measures:
1. For installing the power system, you calculate and design standards, not add more suffering electrical equipments without the appropriate calculations.
2. Set the aptomat or the circuit breaker for the main power lines in homes and for every extra line such as each region, each item, each room and each electrical equipment with high capacity. Put protective equipments in front of each power socket. Fuse wire must comply with standards and in accordance with the capacity to use, make sure that there are short circuits, the fuse wire has to explode, immediately cut power.
Do not use foil or other metallic wires that are not suitable to replace the fuse wire. Stabilizers should be equipped to avoid ignition by overcurrent and overvoltage.
3. The section of the conductor must be chosen so that it can afford the current to devices, power tools that it provides. The wires connected to the plugs, sockets and machinery are reliable and compact. Their points of connection to the shunt at the two ends of hot and cold do not overlap. The splice points are properly technical. When the bandage is dry and lighted, it must be checked immediately and tightly connect the junction. Electric wires, fuses, breakers should not be rusted. Should use new wires for places that there are discoloration of insulation materials.
4. Do not use wires with small section for power tools with high capacity to prevent ignition. Do not plug the power cord directly on sockets. If wires contact with metal, they will corrode, so it is illegal to use nails and metal strings to hold the wires. Do not thread wires through roofs. Do not open the wire connections.
5. The electrical equipments and electrical appliances in the house that are too old, they should be checked regularly to plan to replace. When there is no longer need to use the power consumption devices or when there is a outage, unplug electrical equipments from the power source (irons, electric heaters, electric cookers, …) on incombustible materials and the prescribed places. Have regular maintenance and sanitation on electric equipments and tools.
6. To limit the risk of fire when using super electric water heaters, you should use devices with alarms when boiling water. Do not use electric stoves for cooking without adult care. Do not allow children, people with mental illness, … using electrical appliances in the house.
7. Installation of the lighting equipments must be attached to the special-purpose hooks, not hang directly by wire and not use combustible materials such as paper, cloth, plastic, … to cover light bulbs. Do not place flammable substances (gas, petrol, oil, paper, …) near power tools such as lamps, irons, electric stove, electrical outlets, electrical panels, fluorescent lamp ballasts etc … Do not install a power outlet in the bathroom.
8. Regularly check the connectors of the electrical system (switches, sockets, wiring boxes, junctions on the line). If the ignition occurs, separate them from the power source and fix them again or call for an electrician to repair wires.
9. Before leaving the house, turn off all consumer devices, electrical appliances, and before going to bed, check all equipments and utensils such as lights, fans. Cut power to electrical devices if any.
10. For electric welding, ensure fire safety, shield by the incombustible materials or move flammable materials from welding area (minimum 10 meters). Do not allow high temperature welding scales contact with flammable materials or do fire prevention measures and plans for dealing with explosives.
11. When fires occur due to the use of electricity, quickly cut the total circuit breaker, let everyone around know, call police and use fire fighting means in place. Prohibit extinguishing water without power cuts. Every family should be equipped with 1 to 2 versatile fire extinguishing aerosols.
To carry out fire prevention effectively, the first thing is to raise awareness and responsibility of everyone. Especially professional security staffs are absolutely conscious and responsible for reminding everyone to make. PMV has synthesized and gives some causes and how to prevent the risks of fire.
